Mechanically fastened thermoset membrane applications typically require the use of internally reinforced membrane. In a mechanically fastened thermoset membrane system, a variety of methods are used to secure the membrane including:
- Metal disks placed in the seam and attached through the membrane into the roof decks.
- Metal or plastic bars placed in the seam and attached through the membrane and into the deck.
- Metal or plastic batten bars placed over the membrane and covered with membrane stripping.
The fasteners used to secure the disks and bars must be of sufficient length to penetrate into wood or concrete decks a minimum of 25 mm (1 in) and through panelized wood or steel decks a minimum of 19 mm (3/4 in).
