A guardrail system is typically installed at the perimeter of a work area and around all openings. Guardrails prevent workers from reaching an area where a fall hazard exists.
A typical guardrail system is either constructed of wood or proprietary engineered metal components. The system includes a top and intermediate rail and a toe board. Guardrails must be capable of resisting specified loads anywhere along its length and without exceeding the allowable stress for each material used.
