Les travailleurs qui utilisent, transportent ou manipulent du gaz propane, des chalumeaux au gaz propane ou des br\u00fbleurs utilis\u00e9s pour les travaux de couverture doivent suivre des cours appropri\u00e9s de transport, de manutention et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de chalumeau, afin d\u2019obtenir une certification appropri\u00e9e.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le gaz propane est le gaz de p\u00e9trole liqu\u00e9fi\u00e9 le plus couramment utilis\u00e9 pour les travaux de couverture. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un sous-produit du raffinage du p\u00e9trole et de la transformation du gaz naturel, qui est emmagasin\u00e9 sous pression dans des bouteilles ou r\u00e9servoirs de diff\u00e9rentes tailles.<\/p>\n<p>Le gaz propane br\u00fble sans laisser de r\u00e9sidus, ce qui est tr\u00e8s pratique pour les entrepreneurs. Toutefois, chaque ann\u00e9e, l\u2019industrie de la toiture fait rapport de nombreux accidents caus\u00e9s par le gaz propane. Dans la plupart des cas, ces accidents sont le r\u00e9sultat d\u2019une formation insuffisante du personnel, du manque d\u2019entretien de l\u2019\u00e9quipement, ou des deux.<\/p>\n<p>Le gaz propane est non toxique, inodore et invisible. On ajoute au propane un odorant appel\u00e9 mercaptan \u00e9thylique afin de pouvoir facilement d\u00e9celer toute fuite. Son odeur ressemble au chou bouilli ou aux \u0153ufs pourris.<\/p>\n<p>Le gaz propane est liquide, mais sort d\u2019une bouteille ou d\u2019un r\u00e9servoir pour pr\u00e9l\u00e8vement sous forme gazeuse. Le point d\u2019\u00e9bullition du gaz propane, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire le point o\u00f9 le liquide se transforme en gaz, est de -42,2\u00b0C (-44\u00b0F).
